Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) emerged victorious in a thrilling UEFA Super Cup match against Tottenham Hotspur, securing a 4-3 victory in the penalty shootout to lift the trophy. The highly competitive encounter, played in Udine, Italy, saw PSG overturn a 2-0 deficit to force extra time, before ultimately prevailing.

Tottenham started the match strongly, capitalising on early opportunities. Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero found the back of the net, giving Spurs a commanding 2-0 lead. However, PSG showed their resilience, staging a dramatic comeback in the latter stages of the game.

Substitutes Lee Kang-in and Gonçalo Ramos played pivotal roles in PSG's resurgence. Lee scored in the 85th minute to reduce the deficit, and Ramos equalised four minutes into stoppage time to send the match into extra time.

The tension-filled penalty shootout saw PSG hold their nerve, converting four penalties against Tottenham's three. Nuno Mendes stepped up to score the winning penalty, sealing PSG's fifth trophy of 2025 and marking the first time a French club has lifted the UEFA Super Cup.

Key moments from the match included Tottenham's early dominance, PSG's late resurgence, and the dramatic penalty shootout. The win asserts PSG's dominance with a near-perfect 2025 season, adding the Super Cup to their Champions League title from earlier in the year.

Lucas Chevalier, who made his debut for PSG in goal following his arrival from Lille, played a crucial role in the shootout, saving a penalty from van de Ven. Ousmane Dembele, Ramos, and Lee scored penalties for PSG, while Mathys Tel missed the target for Spurs.

Thomas Frank, the new coach of Tottenham, made his debut on the bench in the Super Cup match against PSG. Mohammed Kudus and Joao Palhinha both started for Tottenham, with Palhinha sending a ball into the Paris area that Chevalier tipped onto the bar.

Despite Tottenham's strong start and attacking threat, PSG's quality in crucial moments allowed them to prevail after being two goals down. This is the first time PSG, or any French club, have lifted the Super Cup, and it is the first trophy they have won in 2025.

In the match, Chevalier also tips a Richarlison shot midway through the first half, while Van de Ven scored the first goal for Tottenham on 39 minutes, and he also scored the second just after the break. The Super Cup match between Spurs and PSG went to a penalty shoot-out, with PSG eventually winning.

This victory marks a significant milestone for PSG, as they continue to assert their dominance in European football. The team's resilience, depth, and quality were on full display in this dramatic match, and fans can look forward to more exciting performances in the future.

Football was at the forefront of the thrilling UEFA Super Cup match between Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). PSG's comeback from a 2-0 deficit, led by substitutes Lee Kang-in and Gonçalo Ramos, showcased their sportsmanship and determination in the sport.
