PSG secures the signing of French goalkeeper Chevalier from Lille football club
Paris Saint-Germain Sign Lucas Chevalier from Lille for €55 Million
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have bolstered their goalkeeping ranks with the signing of French international Lucas Chevalier from Lille for a reported fee of around €40 million, with potential add-ons of an additional €15 million. The 26-year-old Calais-born shot-stopper has put pen to paper on a five-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2030.
Chevalier, who graduated from Lille's youth academy, is widely regarded as one of the leading goalkeepers in France and Europe. His impressive performances earned him the accolade of Ligue 1's goalkeeper of the year for the 2024-25 season, awarded by the UNFP trade union for professional footballers in France.
PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi hailed the acquisition, stating, "Lucas is one of the leading goalkeepers in France and Europe and a fantastic addition to our team." The club's sporting leadership has identified Chevalier as the expected successor to Gianluigi Donnarumma, with the Italian's contract due to expire soon.
Chevalier's strong distribution skills and confidence with the ball at his feet have been highlighted as qualities that align with manager Luis Enrique's tactical demands, contrasting with Donnarumma's style. The club plans to build long-term stability in goal around Chevalier, a young, ambitious talent widely expected to take over the starting position and help sustain PSG’s domestic and European aspirations.
Upon signing, Chevalier expressed his delight, saying, "I'm really delighted to be here." He added, "I will wear this shirt with passion and ambition." The goalkeeper, who played on loan for Valenciennes before becoming the first-choice keeper at Lille, also stated, "I am a kid that is living his dream."
With the Champions League winners PSG set to face Tottenham Hotspur for the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday, Chevalier's arrival is timely. The exchange rate at the time of reporting is $1 = 0.8592 euros, making the transfer fee equivalent to approximately $47 million.
As PSG look to the future, the acquisition of Lucas Chevalier marks a significant step in their goalkeeping department, with the young star poised to make a lasting impact at the Parc des Princes.
Lucas Chevalier, the recently signed goalkeeper from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), is not only a French international but also one of the leading goalkeepers in European-leagues. His impressive performances and accolades, including being crowned Ligue 1's goalkeeper of the year for the 2024-25 season, have highlighted his potential to sustain PSG’s domestic and European aspirations in sports, particularly football.
