PSG Claims UEFA Super Cup Title in Thrilling Penalty Shootout

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) emerged victorious in a dramatic UEFA Super Cup match against Tottenham Hotspur on August 13, 2025. The final scoreline read 4-3 in favour of PSG, following a 2-2 draw in regular time and a nail-biting penalty shootout.

The first half of the match saw Tottenham dominating the proceedings, with Micky van de Ven (25') and Cristian Romero (40') scoring to give Tottenham a comfortable 2-0 lead. However, PSG showed resilience and fought back in the second half.

Lee Kang-in (85') reduced the deficit with a powerful shot, and Gonçalo Ramos (94') equalised with a header, assisted by Ousmane Dembélé, to level the match at 2-2.

The match went into a penalty shootout, with PSG initially trailing 0-2 after Vitinha missed the first penalty. However, Tottenham's fortunes turned as they missed two penalties, first by Micky van de Ven and then by Mathys Tel.

PSG converted four consecutive penalties, with Nuno Mendes scoring the decisive shootout penalty to win 4-3 for PSG. Dembélé scored a goal in the shootout, leveling it at 2-2 for PSG, while Rodrigo Betancur and Solanke scored for Tottenham. Pedro Porrro scored Tottenham's final penalty, making the score 4-4.

The victory marked PSG’s fifth trophy of 2025, with coach Luis Enrique acknowledging the close call and late luck in the final minutes. The UEFA Super Cup is contested annually between the winners of the UEFA Champions League (PSG) and Europa League (Tottenham).

With the victory, PSG will travel back to Paris to prepare for the Ligue 1 season, which begins on Friday night. They will face Nantes in their first league game of the season, following their Trophée des Champions victory.

Frank, the Tottenham manager, expressed pride in his team's performance against PSG. Substitutes Kang-in Lee and Ibrahim Mbaye were brought in for Tottenham, replacing Richarlison and Joao Palhinha, while Gonçalo Ramos added muscle to the PSG front line.

PSG's new signing Lucas Chevalier made a notable debut, parrying away Van de Ven's shot. Achraf Hakimi provided the assist for Ramos' equaliser. Luis Enrique emphasized the importance of faith in the team for PSG, highlighting their ability to come back from a 2-0 deficit.
