PSG Secure 2025 UEFA Champions League Title with a Resounding 5-0 Victory over Inter Milan
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) claimed their maiden Champions League title, outplaying Inter Milan in a historic 5-0 rout on May 31, 2025, at the Allianz Arena. This victory marked a high point in PSG's decade-long journey, fueled by substantial investment from their Qatari owners.
Teen sensation Desire Doue played a pivotal role in the one-sided final, contributing two goals and setting up another. The Parliament Saint-Germain's prodigious young side, under the guidance of manager Luis Enrique, proved to be one of the most formidable in recent Champions League history.
PSG stormed into the lead within 12 minutes, with Vitinha finding Doue, who squared the ball for Achraf Hakimi to finish. Doue capitalized on a counterattack less than a quarter of an hour later, scoring after a deflection off Federico Dimarco.
A distressed Inter team only came close to scoring in the first half, with Marcus Thuram heading wide from a corner. The match seemed all but lost for Inter after the break, as PSG tacked on another goal in the 63rd minute, this time Dembele setting up Doue following a brilliant team effort.
With less than 15 minutes to go, PSG added a fourth through Kvaratskhelia before the youngster Senny Mayulu sealed the deal with a powerful strike in the dying minutes.
The 5-0 victory by PSG represented the largest margin of victory in a Champions League final since Benfica in 1962, and the most dominant display in the 70-year history of the competition.
Portuguese midfielder Vitinha expressed joy and pride, stating, "This means everything. It's our dream. It's incredible. The result is not by magic. I'm happy we did it like this."
The 2024/25 Champions League triumph followed a period of extensive investment and rebuilding for PSG, who were previously runners-up in 2019. The Parisians are only the second French winners of European football's most prestigious prize, with Marseille claiming the trophy in 1993.
For Inter, the defeat brought an end to an impressive season, marking their second final loss in three seasons. With their aging roster in need of an overhaul, rebuilding efforts will commence to improve upon a disappointing titleless campaign.
Upon reflection, Inter manager Simone Inzaghi admitted, "PSG absolutely deserved to win this match. We are very disappointed. As a coach, I am proud of our campaign, but we’re not satisfied with tonight's game. PSG outplayed us."
