In a dramatic turn of events, French prosecutors have formally requested that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) player Achraf Hakimi stand trial over rape allegations made against him in 2023. This request was made on August 1, 2025, and the decision now rests with the investigating magistrate, who will decide whether to refer the case to a criminal court for trial.

The charges were filed in March 2023, following an incident that allegedly occurred on February 25, 2023, at Hakimi's home in Boulogne-Billancourt, a Paris suburb. The young woman, who had met Hakimi on Instagram in January 2023, claims that Hakimi kissed her and committed acts without her consent before raping her. After the incident, she managed to push Hakimi away and was picked up by a friend who was contacted via SMS.

The young woman initially reported the rape to a police station in the Val-de-Marne in late February 2023 but did not file a complaint. The Nanterre Prosecutor's Office has since referred the case to the investigating judge in charge of this judicial information, seeking referral to the departmental criminal court.

Hakimi, who denies the accusation and claims he is being targeted for financial reasons, was charged with rape. His lawyer, Me Fanny Colin, described the requests as "incomprehensible and senseless." If tried and convicted, Hakimi could face up to 15 years in prison.

Me Rachel-Flore Pardo, the lawyer for the civil party and spokesperson for the alleged victim, expressed relief at the news. She spoke to AFP, confirming the developments in the case. If the investigating magistrate decides to proceed with the trial, it will mark a significant step in the legal process.

Me Fanny Colin stated that they would exercise all possible remedies if the requests were followed. The PSG player's team has not issued a public statement regarding the latest developments.

The news was confirmed by Le Parisien, adding another layer to the ongoing saga involving one of France's most high-profile athletes. As the case unfolds, the public will continue to watch closely, hoping for a resolution that brings justice to all parties involved.

The general-news outlet Le Parisien reported that the investigating magistrate is now deciding whether to refer the crime-and-justice case of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) player Achraf Hakimi, who is accused of rape, to a criminal court for trial. Members of sports-analysis have been discussing the potential impact of this legal process on Hakimi's sports career, particularly if he is tried and convicted, as he could face up to 15 years in prison.
