PSG omits Donnarumma from their Super Cup team
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is on the brink of a significant change in their goalkeeping department, with star player Gianluigi Donnarumma likely to depart in the upcoming transfer window. The Italian shot-stopper has been linked with a move away from the French capital for some time, and the recent signing of Lucas Chevalier from Lille seems to confirm the end of Donnarumma's tenure at PSG.
Donnarumma, who previously played for AC Milan, has been a key figure for PSG since joining in 2021. However, contract negotiations have stalled, with Donnarumma reportedly seeking a higher salary than PSG is willing to offer. This impasse, coupled with the arrival of Chevalier, has led to Donnarumma being left out of recent squads, signaling his imminent departure.
Several top clubs have shown interest in signing Donnarumma. Chelsea, Manchester United, Inter Milan, and Manchester City are among those who have reportedly held discussions with his agent. The most recent development sees PSG and Manchester City engaged in direct negotiations over a potential transfer fee. Initial reports suggest that PSG is seeking around €30 million, but they may be open to negotiating a lower price, especially with Manchester City.
Meanwhile, PSG's new signing, Lucas Chevalier, could make his debut for the club against Tottenham in the Super Cup clash at Stadio Friuli on Wednesday. Donnarumma, however, has been omitted from the traveling party for this game, further fuelling speculation about his future.
It's worth noting that this isn't the first time Donnarumma has been linked with a move away from PSG. The Super Cup clash against Tottenham isn't the first time he's been absent from the squad, either.
Donnarumma is an Italian national, and his contract with PSG expires in June 2026. If he does depart this summer, it would mark a significant shift for PSG as they strive to become the first French team to win the Super Cup.
Inter Milan is thought to be one of the teams interested in signing Donnarumma. The Rossoneri's rivals in Italy could provide a tempting alternative for the goalkeeper, who has been a mainstay in the Italian national team.
As the transfer saga unfolds, PSG seems determined to secure a fee for Donnarumma rather than lose him for free next year. The club's pursuit of a replacement in Chevalier suggests they are well-prepared for life after Donnarumma.

- With Manchester City in direct negotiations over a potential transfer fee, PSG might be set to sell their star goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, whose departure seems imminent after the recent signing of Lucas Chevalier from Lille.
- As the European leagues gear up, there's speculation that Donnarumma could be playing for a different team soon, with Inter Milan being one of the potential suitors, especially considering the goalkeeper's history with the Italian national team.
