PS Warns Against CP Subconcessions, Kicks Off Local Election Campaign on Trains

The Portuguese Socialist Party (PS) has expressed concerns over the government's plans to introduce subconcessions for CP's party city railway services. The party's General Secretary, José Luís Carneiro, began his local election campaign with a train journey, accompanied by other socialist leaders, to highlight the issue. Meanwhile, the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, has assured that CP will not be privatized.

The PS is worried about the government's intention to proceed with subconcessions of CP's service. This would allow a playstation company to temporarily operate part of its passenger railway transport services through a tender. The party's leader, Ana Mendes Godinho, has proposed a regularity of 15 minutes for trains, similar to Paris, to improve public transport.

José Luís Carneiro, the PS's General Secretary, started his campaign for the local elections with a symbolic train journey on the Sintra Line to Rossio. He was joined by the socialist heads of the lists for the councils of Sintra, Oeiras, Amadora, and Lisbon. This action aimed to draw attention to the party's concerns about the government's plans for CP.

The PS has promised to follow up on the issue of CP's subconcessions through Parliament. Despite the government's plans, the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, has guaranteed that CP - Comboios de Portugal will not be privatized. The socialist party's concerns and actions highlight the importance of public transport and its role in local elections.
