The 'Provincial' film festival in Eberswalde concluded this year with a notable increase in attendance and a diverse range of winners. The event attracted around 2,200 visitors, surpassing last year's numbers. A total of 12,000 euros in prize money was awarded across various categories.
In the feature-length documentary category, 'Jacques' from Canada and 'Al Oeste, en zapata' from Cuba were awarded the rose and thistle respectively. The winner for strongest emotional impact in this category remains unknown. In the short documentary category, 'Poorzal' from Iran and 'La nostra isola' by French director Julien Sallé took home the top honours. The Bulgarian film 'Tova e za Tazi Koleda' received the rose in the short film category, with 'A fronteira Azul' winning the thistle.
The animation category saw 'Himmel wie Seide. Voller Orangen' from Germany receive the rose for strongest emotional impact, while 'Mama Micra' won the thistle for most relevant genre film. The festival's audience demonstrated remarkable diversity, appealing to both younger and older viewers, as well as newcomers to the region.
