Protests in Cairo Turn Deadly: Teenager Killed by Security Vehicle
Protests in Cairo have been ongoing against former Egyptian Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri. The latest demonstration turned tragic when 19-year-old Ahmed Sorour was killed in an incident involving a Central Security vehicle. The incident has sparked outrage and demands for justice.
Sorour was participating in a protest against al-Ganzouri's appointment as prime minister when the incident occurred. Security sources initially denied any wrongdoing, claiming the vehicle hit Sorour while reversing. However, the preliminary examination revealed severe injuries, including abrasions, a pelvic fracture, and marks from the vehicle's wheels on his body and clothes.
The victim's brother, Osama, alleged that detectives attempted to bribe him to decline a full examination of Ahmed's body and to publicize his death. Meanwhile, Sorour's mother demanded her son return home three days prior to the incident, but he refused, determined to join the protest. This is not the first time Sorour has been injured during a protest. In September, he was struck by a shotgun pellet in his left leg during clashes at the Israeli Embassy but refused to have it removed due to fears of arrest.
Protests against al-Ganzouri continue outside the cabinet building, with demonstrators calling for accountability and justice for Sorour. The Interior Ministry has since apologized to the Sorour family over the teenager's death.
The death of Ahmed Sorour has fueled ongoing protests against former Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri. While security sources deny any wrongdoing, the family and protesters demand a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. The incident has once again highlighted the tense political climate in Egypt and the ongoing struggle for justice and accountability.
