Protestors in Westphalia rally against conservative extremism
In a series of events across Germany, citizens have taken to the streets to demand clarity, justice, and a stand against right-wing extremism.
Recent reports by Correctiv, a research network, have exposed a secret meeting of AfD members with other influential right-wing extremists in Potsdam. The revelations have led many people to publicly position themselves against the right, with plans to expel people with migration backgrounds from Germany apparently discussed in the meeting.
In response, initiatives like Bündnis Buntes Zweibrücken have been warning about the right-wing shift and the influence of right-wing extremists for a long time. The initiative wants to point out and warn against democracy- and human-hostile ideologies of the right.
Meanwhile, in Kusel, citizens have called for a thorough investigation into the death of asylum seeker Hogir Alay. Hogir, a 24-year-old Kurdish man, fled from Turkey in 2023 and was housed in a reception facility in Kusel. He was found hanged in a nearby forest in early November. The community is urging authorities to ensure transparency and accountability regarding the circumstances of his death, reflecting growing concerns about the treatment of asylum seekers and the handling of such cases by local officials.
The anti-right-wing rally in Kusel, organised by the Greens, had around 250 participants. The rally started at Koch'schen Market at 2 pm and ended peacefully at 3:30 pm. A brass stumbling block is also set to be created near the Amtsgericht in Zweibrücken to remember the forced laborers exploited during the war.
Simultaneously, demonstrations against right-wing extremism took place in South West Pfalz and Kaiserslautern, although specific details were not provided. A demonstration against right-wing extremism will also take place in Kaiserslautern next Saturday, the 27th.
In solidarity, a rally against right-wing extremism will also take place in Zweibrücken on the same day as the one in Kaiserslautern. The protest against the right-wing scene in Pirmasens took place on Schlossplatz with around 100 participants on Saturday morning.
