Protesting Action Denounced by Wike Against Rivers Sole Administrator's Spouse

FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, expresses disapproval of the demonstration against Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady, by a faction of women.

Protesting Action Denounced by Wike Against Rivers Sole Administrator's Spouse

In a heated incident, a group of women, loyal to the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, walked out on Theresa Ibas, wife of the state's interim administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Retd.), during a women's empowerment event at the EUI Centre in Port Harcourt. The occasion was part of the Renewed Hope Initiative.

The gathering turned chaotic as the women began protesting, refusing to be addressed by Ibas, who was standing in for the wife of President Bola Tinubu, Remi, at the event. The women demanded that Valerie Fubara, wife of the suspended Governor Fubara, address them instead.

Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, condemned the walkout, calling it an embarrassment to the people of Rivers State. Wike apologized to the First Lady and President Tinubu on behalf of the people of Rivers State, stating that any insult towards someone representing the First Lady of Nigeria is a direct insult on the office of the President.

Wike, currently in China for official engagements, found the incident "very disturbing and embarrassing," and cautioned supporters of the suspended governor to stop ridiculing the State. He urged Fubara to be honest and tell the President directly what he wants, rather than making promises today and acting differently tomorrow.

Wike stated that those who truly want peace should work towards it, not just make empty pleas while simultaneously engaging in actions contrary to their claims. He questioned how one can claim to want peace and yet sponsor insults towards the President and his wife. Wike also expressed his disapproval of the "shenanigans" as they wouldn't bring peace.

In a statement released by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Wike announced that he and his followers condemn the incident in its entirety and apologize to their First Lady for the embarrassing conduct of the few women who do not represent the people of Rivers State.
