Trump's State Visit to the UK: Protests, Royal Reception, and the Epstein Affair

Donald Trump is currently in Windsor, UK, for a state visit that has been met with protests and controversy. Thousands of people demonstrated against the visit, organised by the "Stop Trump Coalition," due to his contributions to "divisive, far-right politics" as criticised by London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

Despite the protests, Trump was received at Windsor Castle. Activists projected images of Trump and Jeffrey Epstein onto a tower of Windsor Castle, reviving the Epstein affair, a significant issue in relation to Trump. Epstein had close connections with American high society, including Trump.

Trump vehemently denies any involvement in Epstein's crimes. In the UK, the Epstein scandal has reached the innermost circle of the Royal Family, involving Prince Andrew. Just a few days ago, Prime Minister Keir Starmer had to recall his ambassador to Washington due to his close ties to Epstein.

One of Epstein's victims accused Prince Andrew of having sexually abused her multiple times when she was a minor. A lawsuit ended in a settlement regarding Prince Andrew's involvement. Trump paid a compliment to Princess Kate, saying "beautiful," during the visit.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Princess Kate were present to greet Trump. The US President was driven through the castle gardens, accompanied by national anthems of both countries. The scale of the military ceremony in Windsor is "unprecedented."

A grand state banquet is scheduled for the evening, during which Trump and King Charles III will each give a speech. Four people were arrested in connection with the projection of the images onto Windsor Castle. The Guardian reported that the hoped-for lifting of steel and aluminum tariffs would not happen for now, before Trump's arrival.

Melania Trump arrived wearing a distinctive purple hat with a wide brim. The suspicion that the intended lifting of steel and aluminum tariffs during President Trump's visit to the United Kingdom would not occur at that time was expressed by observers noting that England, which agreed to "protection money" payments in May, is still waiting for the promised tariff relief on its steel exports, indicating uncertainty and unpredictability about when or if these tariffs would be lifted during the visit.
