Protesters Call for Lifting of COVID-19 Restrictions in September

German Showmen's Association Urges Lifting of COVID-19 Restrictions for Outdoor Events

In a recent statement, Kevin Kratzsch, the vice-president of the German Showmen's Association, has expressed his concern about the ongoing restrictions on outdoor events and fairs, given the current vaccination situation. He argues that it's no longer justifiable to maintain these restrictions, especially as larger events can be held safely outdoors in the fall.

Kratzsch points to England as an example, where high vaccination rates have not led to hospital overwhelm even with rising incidence rates. He believes that there's hardly any risk of infection outdoors, and larger events should be possible in the fall. He also suggests that other factors, besides the incidence rate, should be considered in political decision-making.

The Oktoberfest in Munich is cancelled for the second year in a row, while the Hamburg Winterdom is still planned with special coronavirus measures in place. However, the German Showmen's Association is advocating for the lifting of all coronavirus restrictions for outdoor events and fairs starting from September.

The association's stance is based on the fact that scheduled outdoor events proceed without special COVID-19 limitations visible in public notices. As of early August 2025, there is no recent specific information indicating that Germany currently maintains strict COVID-19 restrictions on outdoor events and fairs.

Financial aid from the state may not continue if restrictions are maintained in the fall. With planned events in October being cancelled due to uncertainty, and the showmen's industry in a critical condition, the association is urging politicians to lift all coronavirus restrictions for outdoor events and fairs from September.

For those seeking details about local state variations or potential future policy discussions, monitoring official German government sources or the Robert Koch Institute updates is recommended. As of now, there are no documented public or political calls for removing outdoor event restrictions in September 2025, as such restrictions appear not to be in force.

The German Showmen's Association suggests that social-media platforms should be utilized to share updates and examples of outdoor events proceeding safely, as they aim to advocate for the lifting of all COVID-19 restrictions for social-media entertainment in outdoor events and fairs starting from September. Furthermore, given the worst-case scenario of financial ruin for the showmen's industry, it's emphasized that entertainment in outdoor settings could greatly benefit from the resumption of normal activities.
