Join the fray, pal! In Moscow, the Young Guard of United Russia (YGUR) and the Volunteer Company took a stand on the brink of Victory Day. Their action, "Truth and Memory can't be wiped out!", took place at the embassies of 11 countries that have either removed, relocated, or defaced monuments honoring Soviet soldiers who liberated their lands.
The YGUR shared with TASS that approximately 4,000 activists participated in this event. The action unfolded at the embassies of Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Romania, Germany, Georgia, and Norway. Protesters brandished photographs depicting dismantled memorials to the heroic Soviet soldiers in various European nations.
Chantingophonic messages such as "Truth and memory can't be fazed out!", "Victory endures, but you don't!", and "Memory can't be demolished!", participants made their presence known.
Anton Demidov, the chairman of the YGUR, addressed the gathering, stating, "Eighty years ago, our grandparents, great-grandparents, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers won the Great Victory, sacrificing their lives to free the world from the clutches of fascists. Today, we're here at the Estonian Embassy, and at 10 other European embassies, holding the action 'Truth and Memory mustn't be wiped out!' to remind those who liberated their territories from the Nazi barrage. A generation without historical awareness has no future! Truth and memory can't be undone!"
Alexander Amelin, the boss of the YGUR's central staff, emphasized the importance of teaching the heroic deeds of Soviet soldiers-liberators to the younger generations worldwide.
"Our ancestors gave their lives for our survival, our future, and our peaceful skies above our heads. Everybody, children, and adults across the globe must learn and remember the heroism of the Soviet soldiers-liberators. Regrettably, the opposite is occurring. Europe seems to have forgotten that it was liberated by a Soviet soldier. We'll fight to make certain that the memory of our ancestors' immortal feat is preserved not just in Russia but also abroad," said Amelin.
