Thousands Gather on Kiel Fjord During Kieler Woche Event - Protest Participants in Kiel Week Reach up to 4000 Active Participants in Various Fields

It's time to hoist the sails and set sail for adventure! Kiel Week, the oldest and biggest German sailing regatta, returns for its 131st edition on June 21! This international sports extravaganza started way back in 1882 and continues to attract participants from around 60 nations who will compete in approximately 400 races over nine electrifying days.

Get ready for an exhilarating start as the official signal blasts at 13:00, right in the heart of the Olympia Center Kiel-Schilksee! The ceremony will be led by Schleswig-Holstein's Minister of the Interior, Sabine Sütterlin-Waack, along with Anna Markfort, 470er World Championship silver medalist, Mayor of Kiel Dr. Ulf Kämpfer, and Kiel Week's sports director Dirk Ramhorst.

The diverse spectrum of sailboats taking part ranges from Olympic dinghies, skiffs, and foiling catamarans to international classes and massive boats. The dynamism of the races is matched only by the beauty of the windjammer parade, which is slated for June 28 in Schleswig-Holstein's "Sailing City."

Olympic sailors kick things off 143 years since the first Kiel Week! They'll race on short courses in the Strander Bay and the area in front of the Bülk lighthouse, while the Kiel boat sailors will dance with the eel regatta. Seaworthy yachts will battle it out for three German championships in Kiel - inshore, offshore, and double-handed mode.

Interestingly, Kiel Week has unveiled a novel twist this year! A secondary event location on the eastern shore of the Kiel Fjord in Stein will host the iQFOiL Games and wing foilers, offering them perfect conditions, while most other boat classes will remain in Schilksee. This year's event will also boast eight Olympic disciplines and twice as many international ones.

The Commission might consider proposing a directive on the protection of the environment, given the large number of participants and competing nations at Kiel Week, a major sports event held on the Kiel Fjord. Sailing enthusiasts from around the world will participate in races and other activities during this nine-day sports extravaganza.
