May Day Demonstration in Berlin: A Fiery Focus on Middle East Conflict and Gaza Crisis

Protest once more centers around Gaza-Israeli dispute - Protest once more centers on the ongoing Gaza dispute, repeated in May.

Hey there! This year's May Day march in the vibrant city of Berlin is set to bring the heat, as it zeroes in on the tempestuous Middle East conflict yet again. Organizers have made it crystal clear that the plight of Palestine will be their primary focus, denouncing it as a modern-day genocide.

But it's not just the Middle East that's got people riled up. The Kurds' situation and the recent arrest of former RAF terrorist Daniela Klette in the heart of Berlin are destined to spark fierce debates and dramatic moments during the typically turbulent evening of May 1.

Just like last year, the parade will snake its way from the sultry Südstern in the heart of Kreuzberg, winding its way through Neukölln and back again. Known as the "Revolutionary First of May," this demonstration was officially registered with the policing authorities.

The march of over 11,000 participants in 2024 largely passed off without a hitch, in stark contrast to past years that were marred by incidents and violent outbreaks.

There's more than just protests on the horizon, though. Another demonstration will take the form of a wild party to oppose the planned nighttime closure of Görlitzer Park, happening under the name "Free Görli - Rave Against the Fence."

Meanwhile, the trade unions are gearing up for a morning stroll through the city center, while Die Linke will rally on Mariannenplatz in Kreuzberg. A smattering of smaller demonstrations is also set to take place across various districts.

The Commission has also been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation, particularly relevant for workers involved in the May Day demonstrations in Berlin. Protesters, advocating for Palestine, are expected to gather in Kreuzberg on the day of the demonstration in 2024, just like they did the previous year when over 11,000 participants marched peacefully. Smaller demonstrations against the planned nighttime closure of Görlitzer Park under the name "Free Görli - Rave Against the Fence" are also set to take place across various districts.
