Protest march advocating for cultural preservation navigates through Neustadt

On a chilly September evening in 2025, the streets of Dresden's Neustadt district echoed with an extraordinary symphony of sounds. This was the tenth edition of dasKONZERTs, a concert series that transforms public spaces into concert halls, making a bold statement for the relevance of free culture in Dresden and beyond.

The musical-performative program was curated by the music theater collective, the Lower Complaints Office, led by Julia Mihály and Maria Huber, and members of the Central Workshop Choir. The event, a collaboration between dasKONZERTs and the 'Kunstwert - we make culture' association, aimed to emphasise the societal importance of contemporary art and to resist cuts in the cultural sector.

The audience was invited to actively participate in the event, using any noise-making object. The night was filled with the unique sounds of the crowd, intertwined with the melodies of the performers. Noise guitarist Cyril Ferrari added an unusual layer to the event, accompanying the mobile part with his distinctive sounds.

The closing performance was handled by the Polish-Ukrainian 31st Duo, consisting of Mariia Lemperk and D. Kowalik. Their performance was a captivating end to an eventful night.

It's worth noting that there was a reference to a new book about the Neustadt district, but further details were not provided. Additionally, there was a separate demonstration that marched through the Neustadt, but it was not related to the concert event.

Since 2022, dasKONZERTs has been exploring unconventional concert formats in unusual places. In autumn 2025, they will hit the streets once more, continuing their mission to bring free culture to the forefront of Dresden's cultural landscape.
