Protest for Palestine: Faro Town Hall expresses regret over accidental data disclosure and takes prompt action to address the issue

In a recent turn of events, the municipality of Faro found itself at the centre of a data privacy incident. According to reports by Lusa, the organizers of a pro-Palestine rally in the city experienced an unintentional sharing of their personal data.

The incident occurred during the communication of the event to the PSP's email address. The personal data shared included full names, tax identification numbers, phone numbers, and addresses of the three activists who notified the municipality of the rally.

Upon identifying the disclosure of personal data, the municipality activated its internal incident response protocols. Measures were taken to stop the disclosure, analyze the origin of the occurrence, and mitigate any potential impacts.

The Algarve for Palestine civic platform, the organizers of the rally, considered the data sharing a "serious" error. The President of the Faro Chamber of Commerce expressed regret for the incident, while the Mayor clarified that the data sharing was not intentional.

The personal data was inadvertently shared with a list of addresses, but no specific details were provided about the entities to which the personal data was shared. It is known, however, that the data was shared with entities outside of the municipality.

The employee responsible for the error had received training in data protection to prevent similar incidents. The municipality also stated that it would be taking necessary legal steps in response to the incident.

The situation will be reported to the National Data Protection Commission later that day. The response to the incident includes addressing the potential impacts on the individuals whose data was shared, as well as implementing measures to prevent future incidents.

As of now, there are no publicly reported latest updates on this specific matter. Further targeted inquiries through official Faro Municipality communications or trusted news sources would be necessary for more detailed or updated information.
