Protective Service for Homeless Pets, Paw Protecc, broadens its reach to Hyderabad and Chennai, coordinating with Mars and Instamart, aiming to safeguard stray animals from the difficulties brought by monsoon season.
The joint initiative between Mars, Incorporated and Instamart, known as Paw Protecc, has expanded to Chennai and Hyderabad. This project aims to provide mobile shelters for homeless community dogs and cats, offering them protection from harsh weather conditions, particularly during the monsoon season.
Specially Designed Shelters for Homeless Pets
The mobile shelters, designed exclusively for homeless pets, provide safe, dry, and shaded resting spaces. They are installed in high-need areas with large homeless pet populations and limited access to natural cover.
Shielding Community Pets from Weather-Related Hazards
The main purpose of these shelters is to shield community pets from injuries, illness, and neglect caused by severe monsoon rains and flooding. By providing a dry and shaded space, the shelters help reduce the risk of illness and injury during the monsoon season.
Expansion Impact and Community Appreciation
Since its successful rollout in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore, the total number of shelters deployed has crossed 700 across the country. The expansion to Hyderabad and Chennai has been well received by local pet lovers and feeding groups, with positive feedback shared on social media.

The Paw Protecc initiative has already been recognized for its practical design and visible impact. Earlier this year, winter shelters were also deployed to protect homeless pets during the cold season across northern cities.

Amala Akkineni, actor, animal welfare advocate, and founder of Blue Cross of Hyderabad, supports the Paw Protecc initiative. This initiative underscores the commitment of Mars, Incorporated and Instamart to give back and support the pets that bring joy to people's lives.
Instamart users have shown a strong response in the pet supplies category, indicating a deep care for pet companions. The Paw Protecc initiative is an attempt to address the critical need for shelter for homeless pets in India, where more than 69 million pets lack regular access to shelter, food, and clean water.
It's worth noting that these shelters are not placed near busy roads, human parks, or pathways to avoid disturbing the animals. By providing these mobile shelters, Mars, Incorporated and Instamart are making a significant contribution to the welfare of homeless pets in India.
