Chicago Cubs Call Up Top Prospect Owen Caissie

The Chicago Cubs have called up outfield prospect Owen Caissie, who has been tearing it up in Triple-A this season. Caissie, a 23-year-old Canadian native from Burlington, Ontario, will make his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut on Thursday against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.

In his second tour of Triple-A this season, Caissie has slashed an impressive .292/.393/.573 in 92 games, with 22 home runs, 26 doubles, and 53 unintentional walks. His powerful performance has earned him the status of the Cubs' top prospect and the 45th overall prospect in baseball according to MLB Pipeline.

R.J. Anderson, an expert, ranked Caissie as the No. 3 prospect in the Cubs system back in February. The Cubs will enter Thursday's game against the Blue Jays with a 68-51 record, and any gains Caissie could provide could turn him into a middle-of-the-order force. The team is currently in second place in the National League Central, four games behind the first-place Brewers and holding the top wild card spot in the NL.

Pitchers have found it challenging to get Caissie out, as he has a 28.4% strikeout rate last season, a new career best. Moreover, more than 42% of Caissie's balls in play last season were clocked over 95 mph, and he twice cleared the 115 mph threshold with his balls in play.

Caissie spent most of his time in the right field position in 2025. The Cubs managed roster challenges with established outfielders and a recent acquisition, making the timing of Caissie's call-up significant for the team. In his debut at-bat, Caissie faced pitcher Max Scherzer and hit a line drive that was spectacularly caught, narrowly denying him his first major league hit.

Owen Caissie was a second-round draft pick and was acquired by the Cubs from the Padres in a trade that involved Yu Darvish in December 2020. With his impressive performance in Triple-A and his raw power, Caissie's combination of pure upside and youth make him worth monitoring for the Cubs and their fans.
