Ed Martin, the controversial pick for US attorney in Washington, DC, ducked numerous tough questions during his confirmation process, leaving Senate members, and CNN, questioning his honesty and character.

In his written responses, Martin tried to distance himself from years of inflammatory remarks, but CNN highlighted several instances where his answers didn't match his previous actions. For example, he claimed he didn't recall equating a political figure to Adolf Hitler, yet a 2022 podcast episode showed him explicitly saying President Joe Biden was "Hitler."

Martin also had a history of engaging with White nationalists, despite telling the Senate he would never promote or condone such ideologies. He appeared on multiple VDARE podcasts, a known anti-immigrant website, and failed to disclose these appearances when initially submitting his paperwork to the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Martin's disconnect between his written answers and past actions extended to his stance on the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. He refused to unequivocally acknowledge the violence that day, and even insinuated that officers who defended the Capitol may have lied about their experiences. This contradicts his later statements on his podcast where he accused certain officers, such as Michael Fanone, of lying about being mistreated during the riot.

Martin's appointment has been met with opposition from Democrats, who argue that his lack of transparency and questionable associations make him unfit for the role of DC's top prosecutor. They've called for a hearing on his nomination, a request that has so far been denied by Republicans.

As the confirmation process continues, Martin's past rhetoric and associations will undoubtedly be scrutinized further. His reluctance to answer certain questions honestly casts doubts on his ability to serve as an impartial judge of law and justice in the nation's capital.
