In the ongoing trial at the Regional Court of Trier, a 40-year-old man stands accused of strangling an elderly woman due to greed. The trial began on a sombre note, with additional allegations surfacing against a defense lawyer involved in the case.

The defense lawyer, whose identity has not been disclosed, is suspected of smuggling medication into prison and attempting to influence a witness. The prosecutor admitted to searching the lawyer's office and apartment, but maintained that he did not consider himself biased in the case.

However, the court has ruled that the search of the lawyer's premises was disproportionate and illegal. The defense lawyer demanded a change of prosecutor, claiming bias, but the court rejected the application.

The accused, who is not named in this report due to the ongoing trial, is said to have had a troubled past with his ex-wife. The pair met in Trier's drug scene, and after their child was born, the ex-wife separated from the defendant. The defendant is also accused of stalking his ex-wife and throwing a brick through her window.

The crime in question occurred on November 4, 2024, in Trier-West. The defendant is accused of killing the woman to get her money. The police suspected the defendant shortly after the murder, and the defendant did not comment during the trial. The victim and the defendant were well acquainted.

Meanwhile, a 33-year-old co-defendant withdrew 4,000 euros with the victim's bank card the same evening of the crime. The originally suspected 33-year-old defendant had fled to Romania with the main suspect that night, but investigations have cleared her of suspicion. The defendant allegedly stole at least 5,000 euros in cash and the victim's bank card.

The chief prosecutor presented the indictment, revealing several details about the crime. The defendant, it seems, had planned to move to Romania with a prostitute. The trial continues, with the public and media awaiting the court's verdict.

The ongoing controversy surrounding the defense lawyer in the Trier trial extends beyond the courtroom, as he is believed to have been involved in acts of smuggling medication into prison and witness tampering, which are matters of crime-and-justice and general-news. The court ruling that the search of the lawyer's premises was illegal adds a political dimension to the ongoing trial.
