Proposed Removal of Unauthorized Foreign Residents by Home Minister.

Frontline: Russia's Crackdown on Unauthorized Immigrants

In a stark statement, Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Russia's Interior Minister, declared that unauthorized immigrant dwellers should vacate the country's streets and neighborhoods. Jobless, expelled university students, non-graduates of fingerprinting, language learners, and those unproductive to Russian society have been targeted for removal, according to Kolokoltsev.

Kolokoltsev's concerns surround the ongoing attempts to stir up conflict within the nation's borders regarding migration. He endorses proactive strategies to curb crime among migrants, emphasizing the public exposure of positive results and the inevitable punishment for the culpable.

To prevent local community dissatisfaction, Kolokoltsev addressed the need to streamline the processing of immigrant documents, ensuring the avoidance of crowded queues. He pointed out that such images and videos of congested lines are indicative of organizational issues and could provide cover for undocumented immigrants aiming for legal status.

Starting from February 5th, Russia has spearheaded the registry of controlled persons, housing information on unlawful migrants subjected to a stringent expulsion policy. Data on foreigners in the registry will persist until their departure from Russia or settlement of their legal status. An individual in the registry is forbidden from relocating residence without consent, leaving the Russian territory, purchasing properties or vehicles, marrying, opening bank accounts, operating vehicles, or enrolling children in schools and daycare centers. By March 2025, Vladimir Kolokoltsev announced that approximately 685,000 individuals had been added to the registry.
