Monheim Triennale 2025 Embraces Post-Genre Artistic Climate
The Monheim Triennale 2025, taking place from 2nd to 6th July, 2025, is set to be a unique and groundbreaking event in the world of music and arts. This year's program, published on 26th June, 2025, is focused on a post-genre artistic climate that transcends traditional musical and artistic categories, promoting diversity and equality among artists[1].
The festival, overseen by Music Director Felix Klopotek, features 16 Signature Artists, including the influential Tyshawn Sorey and the creator of Atelic Halo, who embody the inclusive, post-genre artistic vision[1][4]. Other notable artists include Terre Thaemlitz, whose "Piano Solo" (5.7., in the Villa am Greisbachsee) is a meditation on refusal and socio-musical interventions, aiming to avoid the event character[1].
Anushka Chkheidze will interact with "intelligent" machines and perform on the organ in the Monheim old town church (4.7.)[1]. Heiner Goebbels' project "The Mayfield," a part of the Monheim Triennale's programs since 2021, focuses on sound syntheses and confronts post-industrial conditions[1].
Shannon Barbett, a representative of the Cologne jazz scene, presents a new work as a world premiere, while Darius Jones leads "Samesoul Maker" (5. and 6.7.), a composition for the human voice with a ritual theme[1]. The first round, or "Prequel," featured the musicians as soloists and in spontaneous, joint ad-hoc ensembles[1].
The festival's program extends beyond the festival ship and encompasses the entire city of Monheim, making it a unique event in our latitudes[1]. Oren Ambarchi's ensemble piece "Hubris" (3.7.) focuses on drone and minimal improvisation, while Selendis Sebastian Alexander Johnson presents their project "Reflections on the German Revolution (1918~1919, and more)" on the same day[1].
The Monheim Triennale 2025 is a celebration of diversity, crossing cultural and musical boundaries, and a testament to the power of art in breaking down hierarchical constraints and genre-based limitations. It's an event not to be missed for anyone interested in contemporary music and art.
