Katrin Lange, the SPD Interior Minister of Brandenburg and a woman with a voice that's getting louder in political circles, is not holding back on her views about the coalition talks with the Union. "Enough is enough," Lange told Bild am Sonntag. "We've seen the writings on the wall - the public's patience with current politics is running damn thin, and that's where the traffic light coalition fucked up."
For Lange, it's time for a shift in policy and fresh faces in the government. And she's not messing around. "If we don't step up to the plate, if we don't deliver on the changes people are demanding, they're gonna kick us out," she warned.
This call for a shake-up comes at a time when Saskia Esken, the SPD's federal chairwoman, is under fire for her leadership. Esken's satisfaction rating is at abysmal 13%, as per the latest ARD "Deutschlandtrend," down from 17% in December 2021. Meanwhile, Co-Chairman Lars Klingbeil is steadily climbing with 35%, up from 28% in March 2021.
But it's not only Saskia Esken that Lange's critical of. Brandenburg's SPD General Secretary Kurt Fischer believes Esken doesn't have what it takes to be a government figure that genuinely connects with the people and scores high in popularity polls. "Our government figures need to be rockstars, capable of leading and making a real impact!" Fischer stated, sans mincing words.
