Feds Up in Arms Over Chemnitz Railway Woes: Initiative Launches SOS for RE6 Line

Enough is enough! Following a grueling series of mishaps with the RE6 linking Chemnitz and Leipzig, the Chemnitz Railway Initiative has presented a cunningly crafted wishlist to the railway company and local politicians.

In a nutshell:

  • Chemnitz Railway Initiative unveils a SOS plan for the RE6 line
  • Regular inconveniences plaguing the RE6 between Chemnitz and Leipzig
  • Initiative demands an armada of double-decker coaches and additional locomotives
  • An IHK Chemnitz petition for expanding the railway track has been running for three weeks
  • Over 2,800 signatures back the petition

Chemnitz Action Squad brands the connection as an embarrassing flop:

"We had presumed the worst, and now it's come to life," states spokesperson Sebastian Drechsler (34). "We've repeatedly forewarned, but bureaucrats and responsible parties have consistently underestimated the gravity. Now it's spiraling out of control."

Temporary injunction: AfD can't evict Nico Köhler for now

Delays, cancellations, broken coaches, bursting trains - and it's been going on for months. Recently, MRB was compelled to confess that the issue of toxic diesel emissions from locomotives was insoluble. The temporary measure of blocking the intermediate carriage is applicable to both directions for now. Result: no room, bursting trains. The MRB's sole solution: additional buses. And that in the KuHa year.

IHK Chemnitz's petition for expanding the railway line has been running for three weeks

"We require three double-decker coaches - not two and a consolation prize," says Drechsler. "If necessary, a fourth coach should be held in reserve, anything else is sheer patchwork."

The initiative's additional requests are crystal clear and unambiguous: The RE6 E - a "call-up train" via Riesa - should permanently run at a 2-hour interval. More locomotives and, more importantly, double-decker coaches must be procured on an emergency basis.

MRB remains tight-lipped. They're scrutinizing "a multitude of options" and beg for patience, but many have long since grown weary. Agitation and despair among passengers are intensifying daily.

The petition by Chemnitz IHK for expanding the single-track railway line has been running for three weeks. Over 2,800 signatures have been gathered thus far.

IHK’s manager for location policy, Martin Witschaß (40): "We've galvanized a large number of individuals, but we're not there yet."
