Germany in the Crosshairs

Martin Reichardt, an AfD member and Saxony-Anhalt's state chairman, weighs in on the Christmas market attack in Magdeburg:

"The Magdeburg carnage is a chilling reminder that we're entangled in a turbulent religious-political whirlwind from beyond our borders. The city witnessed a bloodthirsty unleashing of hate. Sidewalks, now drenched in terror and sorrow, are all too familiar in contemporary Germany, thanks to our misguided immigration policies.

On this day of collective devastation, we must face uncomfortable questions: Was there a lapse in authority? Did our elected officials miss vital warning signs?

A peek into the perpetrator's digital footprint reveals an abyss of intolerance: vitriol against Islam, threats toward Germany, calls for vengeance drenched in blood. The criminal even declared his intention. Yet, the question lingers: Could we have acted sooner to prevent this disaster? Might we have seen Magdeburg's residents enjoy a peaceful Christmas in 2025? All expressions of sympathy seem hollow if we don't acknowledge and address the personal and political repercussions. If we don't repair our politicians' damaged credibility, Saxony-Anhalt's Interior Minister, Zieschang, must step down."
