YAKUTIA.INFO. Amidst efforts to improve living conditions for nomadic families in Yakutia's far-flung regions, an interdepartmental task force, under the Ministry of Arctic Development and Affairs of the North, advocates applying the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug's approach. This involves providing regional remuneration to nomads adhering to traditional ways, such as the "chum capital" bonus offered in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug upon birth of children.
Mikhail Pogodaev, Deputy Minister overseeing Northern affairs, insists on enhancing the housing situation for indigenous minority groups of the Northern territories by legislating regulatory acts, encompassing housing specifications for nomadic families.
He underscores the necessity for regional laws, allowing nomadic families to claim subsidies for shared services and reimbursement for a significant expense - acquiring and preparing firewood for heating their dwellings.
Mikhail Pogodaev also emphasizes the need for legal recognition of nomadic families' right to accommodation from the housing fund's specialized units, during periods of disability, seasonal rest, children's education, or residence of disabled family members in populated areas within the district.
Furthermore, he highlights the importance of increasing health check-ups for children residing in isolated regions of the Arctic zone within the republic.
Nomadic families inhabit 17 districts of Yakutia. As per the Ministry of Labor and Social Development's latest family registry, 149 such families are registered.
