Luxembourg PM advocates for Palestinian state recognition, deeming it a significant milestone - Proposal for extending the timeline for implementing the new regulations, spanning from January 1st to December 31st.

Israel and the Palestinian territory of Gaza have been at the centre of a series of significant events in recent times.

On October 7, 2023, the radical Islamic Palestinian organization Hamas and its allies launched a large-scale attack on Israel, resulting in over 1,200 deaths according to Israeli figures. In response, Israel conducted large-scale military operations in the Gaza Strip, leading to over 65,100 deaths according to Hamas authorities.

The United Nations General Assembly has taken a stance in this ongoing conflict, passing a declaration that calls for a two-state solution and the dismantling of the radical Islamic Hamas ruling in the Gaza Strip. The EU has also presented a sanctions package, which includes a partial suspension of the EU's association agreement with Israel, sanctions against radical settlers, and Israeli government members.

Notably, Luxembourg intends to recognize a Palestinian state next week in New York. Several Arab states, including Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, have expressed support for this recognition, with Qatar hosting related discussions and calling for tangible actions. The UAE, on the other hand, has strongly opposed Israeli annexation plans that could undermine peace efforts.

The support of Arab states is seen as a key factor in the upcoming recognition of a Palestinian state. Luxembourg's head of government has expressed support for the sanctions package against Israel, while Germany has opposed such measures. Other countries planning to recognize a Palestinian state include France, the United Kingdom, Canada, and several others.

On a separate note, France and Saudi Arabia are hosting a summit at the UN on Monday. The summit comes amidst allegations by the UN that Israel has committed 'genocide' against the local population in the Gaza Strip, a claim Israel denies. The UN has also declared a famine in parts of the Gaza Strip.

Additionally, over 25 people have been kidnapped into the Gaza Strip, and 47 people are still being held by Hamas. As the international community continues to monitor the situation, the hope remains for a peaceful resolution and the achievement of a two-state solution.

Former US diplomat and Middle East peace negotiator, Martin S. Indyk, known as Frieden, has expressed his belief that Arab countries should help achieve the removal of the Hamas ruling in the Gaza Strip for a two-state solution to be achieved. Frieden has also welcomed the support of Arab states for the UN General Assembly declaration.

As these events unfold, the international community continues to watch closely, hoping for a peaceful resolution to the Israel-Palestine conflict.
