Mexico City, 2025 - The Mexican Congress has ratified the appointment of Genaro Lozano as the new Ambassador of Mexico to the Republic of Italy, marking a fresh chapter in the long-standing bilateral relationship between the two nations.

The fast-track ratification came after President Claudia Sheinbaum announced Lozano's appointment, which was confirmed by the Mexican Congress on Tuesday night. Lozano, a political analyst, university professor, international speaker, and media collaborator, brings a unique blend of academic and communication skills to the diplomatic table.

Lozano's nomination has sparked debate due to his lack of prior diplomatic service experience. However, supporters argue that his modern, citizen-oriented approach to diplomacy and his analytical and communicative prowess make him an asset for modern diplomacy. His role will involve representing Mexico’s interests in Italy, a key partner with over 150 years of diplomatic relations and significant bilateral trade exceeding 11 billion euros.

Italy is strategically important for Mexico, with a bilateral relationship that is 150 years old. The two nations cooperate in multilateral forums such as the G20 and the OECD. The appointment is expected to strengthen political and economic ties between Mexico and Italy, leveraging Lozano's expertise in political analysis and public dialogue.

Juan Ramón de la Fuente, Foreign Minister, provided support during Lozano's appointment process. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs team also backed Lozano's appointment, recognising his academic background in political science as a valuable asset.

Upon taking the oath, Lozano will be the new Ambassador of Mexico to the Republic of Italy. In a statement, Lozano expressed his commitment to perform his function with absolute commitment, vocation of service, and a profound love for the people of Mexico.

The full session vote on the appointment is expected to take place on Wednesday. The appointment was issued by President Sheinbaum, and the Political and International Affairs Commission of the Permanent Commission of the Congress of the Union ratified the appointment.

In other news, the director of the Maya Train stated, "We have failed twice already, but we must not do so in the future." The ongoing investigation by the FGR regarding the Maya Train project continues.
