Proposal Accepted for Directive on Commission's Agenda: Details Given

In Moers, Germany, Ulrich Greb, the distinguished Intendant of the Schlosstheater Moers, is set to retire at the end of the current season, concluding a 22-year tenure marked by innovation and dedication. During his time at the helm, Greb's productions were praised for their power and timeliness, with themes anticipated ahead of their time.

Among Greb's notable achievements was the introduction of the "Futur II" project, which dealt with climate change and the impending flood disaster, to the stage as early as 2013. His groundbreaking work earned him the German Theater Award that same year, and in 2021, he was honored with the Great Cultural Prize of the Sparkassen-Kulturstiftung Rheinland.

Greb expressed gratitude for the recognition, but quick to emphasize that the awards were a testament to the theater and the collective ensemble, which he noted was integral to the Schlosstheater's unique character. In parting, he advised the city's politics to seize the opportunity to implement the theater renovation, a project that is jointly funded by state and federal governments.

Chairperson Gudrun Tersteegen and First Deputy Wolfgang Thoenes expressed their heartfelt thanks to Greb for his unwavering commitment to the Cultural Committee. His successors, Jakob Arnold and David Kunze, introduced themselves during an afternoon event.

Throughout his long-standing leadership, Greb made significant contributions to the cultural landscape of Moers. His artistic vision led to a blend of classical and contemporary works, often with innovative settings and staging. He was also known for engaging with the local community, incorporating local elements into productions and fostering a sense of connection between the theater and the city.

Greb's final production, an adaptation of William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream," was a standout, with parts of the performance taking place within the Schlosstheater and in the Schlosspark, leveraging the natural setting to heighten the theatrical experience. Greb's legacy at the Moers Theater is defined by his dedication to artistic excellence and making theater accessible and engaging for a wide audience. After his departure, Jakob Arnold and David Kunze will take over as the new Intendant duo.

The Schlosstheater Moers, under Greb's leadership, presented a blend of entertainment that was both classical and contemporary, with innovative settings and staging that resonated with the local community. Greb's final production, an adaptation of William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream," combined theatrical excellence with the natural beauty of Schlosspark, providing an engaging and accessible experience for a wide audience.
