Prominent Journalist Takes Over Position Previously Held by Julia Ruhs at NDR
New Moderator for NDR's 'Klarna' Announced
The Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) has announced that Tanit Koch will be taking over as moderator for episodes of the popular format 'Klarna', replacing Julia Ruhs. Koch, who brings a wealth of experience and diverse perspectives to the role, is seen as an excellent fit by NDR's Head of Politics, Juliane von Schwerin.
Koch, who has been in a relationship with actor Oliver Masucci, is known for her intellectually inclined, internationally savvy, and conservative stance. She has had a varied career, having served as a campaign manager for the CDU chancellor candidate Armin Laschet in 2021, and holding positions as CEO at n-tv and editor-in-chief of the RTL central editorial office after leaving Bild. Koch has also been an author at Focus since 2024 and has written for 'The European'.
Koch expressed her excitement about the new opportunity, stating that she is looking forward to contributing to the diversity of opinions in public broadcasting with her outside perspective. She is particularly pleased to be presenting the format 'Klarna' alongside Julia Ruhs.
However, the announcement has not been without controversy. The dismissal of Ruhs from moderating 'Klarna' after protests within the broadcaster caused a huge stir and criticism. Ruhs' opponents accused her of a right-wing populist stance and her show of lacking journalistic standards. Critics, such as Markus Söder (CDU), see the NDR's decision as evidence of suppression of conservative voices.
This decision was met with resistance from a significant number of NDR employees. Nearly 250 employees signed an open letter distancing themselves from the program 'Klarna', expressing concerns over editorial freedom and the program's approach, particularly its coverage of migration. The letter opposed the dismissal of Julia Ruhs as moderator.
The three pilot episodes moderated by Ruhs dealt with the negative consequences of migration, the corona divide, and the farmers' protests. The WochenMOPO newspaper's upcoming issue will feature a range of topics, including 'The Block Connection', 'Enough is enough', 'Climate protection', 'Biker murder', 'Big Puzzle Supplement', '20 pages of sports', and '28 pages of Plan7'.
Koch's time as editor-in-chief of Bild ended in 2018 due to an unresolvable conflict with Julian Reichelt. Despite this, Koch remains a prominent figure in the media landscape and is expected to bring a fresh perspective to 'Klarna'.
