News Article: Holy Cross's Residence Hall Association to Host Sophomore Semi-Formal Featuring Polka Band Fat Cats

The Holy Cross Residence Hall Association (RHA) has announced that the Sophomore Semi-Formal event for the Class of 2027 will feature the polka band Fat Cats. The event, scheduled for March 4, 2023, from 8-11 pm in the Hogan Ballroom, has generated some buzz due to Fat Cats' experimentation with folk music and their controversial past.

Fat Cats, known for their lively performances, will be playing for four hours, charging $150 per hour. The band, which consists of Candy, Johnny Treats, Karl Marie Yeats, and Tickle Twice (stage name), has four albums to their credit: "Blast Out" (2006), "Jerry's Going Bowlin'" (2003), "Who Said That?" (2011), and "Let's Get Together" (2020). However, it's worth noting that the band was removed from consideration for any awards at the Polka Awards 2021.

The event will cost students $20. This price includes not only the music but also prizes worth up to $700. The RHA has been tight-lipped about the funding breakdown for the event, with no documents or links providing information about the costs associated with the polka band, casino tables, or pizza.

The Sophomore Semi-Formal event is not the first time the RHA has organised a unique event. In the past, activities have ranged from waiting an hour at the bookstore for a mom to pick out a sweatshirt to a trip to Walmart. Last year, during Parents Weekend, listening to a dad talk was even listed as an activity.

Caitlin Wiffler '27, a student at Holy Cross, has also been making headlines. She recently hosted Battle of the Roommates on April 25, and it's no secret that she has thousands of dollars of debt from parking fines.

The Class of 2027's Sophomore Semi-Formal event is shaping up to be an exciting affair, with the addition of the polka band Fat Cats. Parents Weekend featured a list of top 10 activities, and it seems the RHA is aiming to make this event just as memorable for the students. The "Polka Prince of Worcester," Dez Candy, will lead the band, ensuring a night of lively music and entertainment.

Students on the campus of Holy Cross can expect an entertaining evening at the upcoming Sophomore Semi-Formal event, as the polka band Fat Cats will be performing. The student council, Residence Hall Association (RHA), has planned this event for the Class of 2027, which will feature music, prizes, and more.
