Prolonged water shortage persists in Granada Hills and Porter Ranch, with repair work set to continue throughout the weekend.

Thousands of residents in Granada Hills and Porter Ranch, San Fernando Valley, were affected by a water outage that started on Tuesday, August 11, 2025. The disruption was caused by a broken valve on a 54-inch diameter water pipeline that supplies a water tank.

The Department of Water and Power (LADWP) initially estimated the restoration time for the outage to be Friday morning, August 8, 2025. However, due to unforeseen complications and high water consumption, the repairs were delayed, and full water service was actually restored by 2:27 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2025.

During the outage, LADWP instructed residents to immediately conserve water and provided water distribution sites from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Holleigh Bernson Memorial Park and O’Melveny Park to supply drinking water. Residents were also asked to avoid using tap water until further notice to help preserve water pressure essential for repair progress and system repressurization.

The repair site was located near critical infrastructure, including oil pipelines, a fiber optic line, and a gas line. Excavation was required nearly 25 feet underground to reach the valve, which added to the complexity of the repair work.

To help residents during the outage, LADWP set up service sites for affected customers at Holleigh Bernson Memorial Park, O'Melveny Park, and an intersection on Tampa Ave. and Sesnon Blvd. Additionally, two new service centers were opened over the weekend: YMCA in Porter Ranch and an intersection of Rinaldi and Louise Avenue. These service sites were open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day, while the new centers were open from 5 a.m to 10 p.m.

Residents were urged to continue using boiled or bottled water until two rounds of 18-hour water-quality testing were completed to ensure safety and to lift the Boil Water Notice. LADWP crews passed out free cases of bottled water to residents through Saturday afternoon.

The Los Angeles Fire Department crews were on standby for any emergencies that may arise during the water outage. Residents were asked to refrain from doing laundry and dishes and to turn off their sprinkler systems and swimming pool automatic fill systems to conserve water.

Residents could call 1-800-DIAL DWP (1-800-342-5397) for 24-hour assistance regarding the water outage. They could also contact the State Water Resources Control Board District Office at (818) 551-2004 for further information.
