Still Searching for Missing Child Maddie in Portugal's Algarve for Two More Days
Prolongation of inquiry in the Maddie case for an additional two days - Prolonged Investigation in Madeline McCann Disappearance Continues for Another Two Days
Madeleine McCann, the British toddler who vanished 18 years ago from a holiday resort in Praia da Luz, southern Portugal, is still the subject of an ongoing search operation. According to officials, the search will continue till Thursday. The operation, led by Portuguese law enforcement with assistance from German federal police, has thus far kept details about their methods and findings confidential.
This latest search is an integral part of the ongoing investigation into the Maddie case. The three-year-old girl vanished on May 3, 2007, just before her fourth birthday. German investigators believe she was abducted and murdered. The primary suspect in the case is 48-year-old German national Christian B., who is currently serving a prison sentence in Germany for another offense.
The investigation is being managed by the Braunschweig public prosecutor's office as Christian B.'s last known residence was in Braunschweig. He is not yet charged in the Maddie case but is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Previous search operations have been conducted in the region, such as the one at a lake near the Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz in 2023, which turned up no leads. The latest search operation is focusing on an area around a cottage once owned by Christian Brueckner in Atalaia, near Lagos, using ground-penetrating radar, drones, shovels, pickaxes, and even diggers. Although the search yielded minimal finds like animal bones, no concrete evidence regarding Madeleine's disappearance has been uncovered yet.
