Projected Intense Rainfall in Coming Days Across Numerous States; Orange and Red Warnings Published

Heavy Rainfall Forecasted Across Western India

Starting from May 23, 2025, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to impact various regions in India, including Konkan, Goa, Karnataka, Madhya Maharashtra, and their adjacent areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for these regions, warning of intense rainfall spells affecting the western coastal regions during this period.

According to the IMD's predictions, isolated extremely heavy rain is anticipated over coastal Karnataka from July 23 to 25. Additionally, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Konkan, Goa, and the ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra on July 24 and 25.

The heavy rainfall is part of the typical North Indian Ocean monsoon season, which peaks from May to November. This season is influenced by cyclonic weather systems that can lead to localized flooding and landslides in affected regions.

Fishermen have been strongly advised against venturing into the Arabian Sea, especially along the coasts of Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, and Gujarat, with a complete suspension of fishing activities recommended in parts of the East-central Arabian Sea from May 24 to 26.

The IMD also forecasts that the system will move northwards, leading to heavy rainfall over the coming days. Madhya Maharashtra may witness very heavy rainfall, particularly on May 24, while coastal Karnataka is anticipated to experience heavy rainfall on May 24.

Squally winds and thunderstorms may occur in several areas, with wind speeds reaching 50 to 60 km/h in some regions. Heatwave conditions are expected to persist in West Rajasthan and parts of Punjab and Haryana, with temperatures remaining above normal.

Southern states, including Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh, are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall over the next five days, with isolated pockets likely experiencing very heavy rainfall.

The northeastern region, including Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and other northeastern states, will experience active rainfall patterns throughout the week. Orange and red alerts have been issued for several states, urging residents to take precautions.

The heavy rainfall events can cause local flooding, landslides, and disruption, emphasizing the need for residents and authorities in these regions to prepare for intense rainfall events, particularly during the late July period, following the initial heavy monsoon onset in May and June.
