Prohibition of Forest Walking Imposed on Residents of Krasnoyarsk Krai

In the heart of Siberia, Krasnoyarsk Krai has imposed a ban on forest visits, aiming to stem the tide of forest fires. This measure will take effect starting from May 1, as part of the region's special anti-fire regime.

Vehicles will not be allowed on the territory of the state forest fund from May onwards. Additionally, restrictions on building campfires in forests and the use of open flames will come into play.

These restrictions apply across all districts and provinces, except for Evenkiya, Taimyr, and Turuhan district.

With May holidays around the corner, the regional Wildfire Control Center is beefing up its forces in central, eastern, and western districts, as these areas have seen the most forest fires this wildfire season.

Drones and cameras mounted on cell tower transmissions will continue to monitor forest fire developments from the air. In popular recreational spots, security cameras, or "photo-traps," have been installed.

Citizens caught starting forest fires face substantial fines, and repeat offenders will be required to cover the costs of extinguishing the fires. Citizen fines range from 400,000 to 500,000 rubles, while those of public officials range from 600,000 to 900,000 rubles. For legal entities, fines range from 6,000,000 to 10,000,000 rubles.

During a live broadcast, Governor Mikhail Kotyukov urged everyone to adhere to all restrictions and bans:

"Extinguishing fires is much more challenging than preventing them. All resources of the firefighting units, all possibilities of the law enforcement system are currently deployed - those responsible for the outbreak of fires will be held accountable."

If a forest fire is discovered, dial the emergency hotline for forest rangers: 8-800-100-94-00.
