Progressive rock icons Adam Jones and Danny Carey of Tool unexpectedly performed at the onset of the Canelo vs. Crawford boxing event, offering a captivating rock spectacle.
In an exciting turn of events, Tool members Adam Jones and Danny Carey took to the stage at the Canelo vs. Crawford boxing match on September 13, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The music for the highly-anticipated event was a collaborative effort between Hans Zimmer and Johnny Marr, alongside the Tool duo.
The performance, which lasted 75 seconds, served as a climactic introduction to the fight. It was a prog rock spar, featuring a Tool-style staccato riff and feedback, reminiscent of the band's iconic sound. Jones played a Gibson Les Paul during the performance, adding to the electrifying atmosphere.
The collaboration didn't stop there. Jones and Carey also performed at the Black Sabbath event alongside their Tool bandmates. The setlist included a powerful rendition of Forty Six & 2, Ænema (from the 1996 album of the same name), and Hand of Doom (from 1970's Paranoid).
In an exclusive update to our website, both Adam Jones and Maynard James Keenan have shared that Tool's upcoming album is still in the writing process. The album is expected to feature a riff heavily influenced by Black Sabbath, as stated by Adam Jones, who finds Tony Iommi's playing inspiring due to him missing parts of his fingers.
This isn't the first time Tool members have collaborated with Black Sabbath. Jones and Carey previously guested at Black Sabbath's Back to the Beginning extravaganza. Adam Jones' inspiration for his playing comes from Tony Iommi's ability to play guitar despite missing parts of his fingers, finding it both professional and amazing.
The Canelo vs. Crawford boxing match was also streamed on Netflix, with Crawford winning by unanimous decision. The performance was streamed on the platform as well, providing fans with a unique blend of sports and music.
Stay tuned for more updates on Tool's upcoming album and future collaborations.
