Tom Brady Steps into New Role with Las Vegas Raiders

Tom Brady, the legendary NFL quarterback and all-time passing yards leader, officially retired from playing in 2025 after an unprecedented 23-year career. His achievements include being the all-time leader in passing yards (89,214), passing touchdowns (649), completions (7,753), and quarterback wins (251)[1][2][3]. Brady is widely regarded as the greatest quarterback of all time (GOAT), with seven Super Bowl wins and five Super Bowl MVP awards[1].

Brady, however, is not entirely leaving the NFL. He holds an ownership role in the Las Vegas Raiders NFL team, joining the Raiders' ownership group and taking on an advisory role in quarterback selections and training[3]. This new role marks his transition from player to executive and mentor within the NFL landscape.

On Friday, Brady attended the Las Vegas Raiders' training camp practice. During the practice, he was seen talking with players like tight end Brock Bowers and running back Raheem Mostert. The Instagram post that prompted Brady's presence was titled "Tom Brady By The Decade" and displayed his statistics over three decades[4].

Interestingly, Brady has a history with the Raiders' current general manager, John Spytek, as they both worked together with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers[5]. Brady's comment about potentially playing in his 50s, which was made in response to the Instagram post, was likely made in jest[6].

Mark Davis, majority owner of the Raiders, believes Brady can "help us select a quarterback in the future and potentially train as well."[3] The future Hall of Famer's desire to add to his career statistics remains uncertain, but his new role with the Raiders offers a unique opportunity for him to contribute to the team in a different capacity.

Meanwhile, Mark Schlereth, a former NFL player and current sports analyst, recently criticised the use of analytics in the NFL[7]. Only New Orleans Saints legend Drew Brees is remotely close to Brady's passing yard total at 80,358[8]. With Brady's retirement, Brees holds the second-highest passing yard total in NFL history.

Football continues to be the centerpiece of Tom Brady's life, even in his new role, as he now holds an advisory position in the Las Vegas Raiders' quarterback selections and training. This new chapter in his career demonstrates his transition from player to executive, a shift well-reflected in the sports-analysis sphere. Despite his retirement from playing American-football, Brady's passing yard total of 89,214 remains unmatched in NFL history, with Drew Brees coming in a distant second at 80,358 yards.
