Professional NBA player Kai Jones underwent a tryout with the Miami Heat on Monday
Miami Heat Continue to Evaluate Kai Jones for Potential Roster Spot
As the 2025-26 NBA season approaches, the Miami Heat are considering adding Kai Jones to their roster. As of late August 2025, Jones has not yet been signed by the Heat, but he has been actively working out with the team and is considered a strong candidate for a roster spot [1][2][4][5].
The Heat brought Jones in for workouts in early August 2025, and he has remained with their organization through training camp preparations. Miami has one open roster spot and has shown clear interest in adding him, but no official signing has been announced.
Jones, the 19th overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft, played for both the Clippers and Mavericks during the 2024-25 season. He played in 12 games and made six starts for the Mavericks, averaging a career-high 21.7 minutes per game.
In April 2024, Jones signed a two-way deal with the LA Clippers. However, in March 2025, he was released by the Clippers but later signed with the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks chose not to re-sign Jones this offseason, leaving him as a free agent.
The Heat have a need for backup big men behind their primary centers, making Jones a logical fit if signed. His contract would likely be at the veteran minimum, around $2.3 million, if he signs with Miami [1].
Jones, who plays the center or power forward positions, is a player that the Heat have expressed real interest in signing. The situation may develop during or before training camp, so Heat fans will be keeping a close eye on any updates regarding Jones.

The Miami Heat are evaluating Kai Jones for a potential roster spot in the upcoming 2025-26 NBA season, as he has been actively working with the team after attending their training camp preparations. Jones, who played for the Dallas Mavericks in the previous season, is a player that the Heat have expressed interest in signing, given their need for backup big men and his abilities at both center and power forward positions.
