Professional athletes from the local football scene have been selected for the Canadian Football League (CFL).

Taylor Elgersma, hailing from London, Ontario, finds himself in the limelight, following his selection in the 2025 CFL Draft. This promising quarterback donned the colors of Wilfrid Laurier University, standing out as a standout quarterback in U SPORTS football.

In a field filled with incredible talent, including other notable players like Keagan Hall, Jonathan Sénécal, and Arnaud Desjardins, Elgersma marched on to make a name for himself. His efforts paid off when he clinched the coveted Hec Crighton Trophy, a testament to his prowess on the field.

On draft night, Taylor found a new home with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Drafted 18th overall in the second round, this was a significant moment in Elgersma's career as he steps into the professional arena. As a prospective addition to their roster, Elgersma could play a pivotal role in strengthening the team's future prospects.

The football universe witnessed another London native rising through the ranks, Erik Andersen, who was selected by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the same round. A versatile offensive lineman, Andersen too shared London roots with Elgersma.

Just three picks later, the British Columbia Lions swooped in to draft Western's Jackson Findlay, another Londoner with aspirations beyond the football field. Findlay aims to be a pediatric oncologist when his career winds down.

Keanu Yazbeck, a Kirkland, Quebec native, joined the fray when the Montreal Alouettes selected him 35th overall in the fourth round. Having contributed double-digit touchdowns and surpassed 1,000 rushing yards in the Mustangs two-back system, Yazbeck promises to bring a spark to the team.

Dre Doiron, a local London offensive lineman, was picked by the British Columbia Lions in the fifth round despite starting his college career at the University of Buffalo and shifting to the Kansas Jayhawks for the last three seasons.

Liam Hoskins, a former CCH graduate, became a Roughrider alongside Erik Andersen, as the Windsor Lancers DL was chosen 43rd overall in the 5th round.

The British Columbia Lions continued their spree by drafting Alex Berwick in the seventh round. A second-team All-Canadian from Ottawa, Berwick had played Centre for Western in the past two seasons.

Finally, the Calgary Stampeders nabbed Max Von Muehldorfer in the 8th round. Having been an OUA All-Star in the previous year, Von Muehldorfer returns to his hometown as he aims to earn a spot in the team's lineup.

These talented young footballers are poised to make a splash in the CFL, with Taylor Elgersma spearheading their charge under the watchful eyes of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Stay tuned for future updates!

Taylor Elgersma, despite being drafted in 2025, is already making waves in the sports world, having played football for Wilfrid Laurier University and clinching the Hec Crighton Trophy.

Hailing from the same city as Elgersma, Erik Andersen was also drafted in 2025, this time by the Saskatchewan Roughriders, showcasing another promising football talent from London, Ontario.

In the 2024 CFL Draft, the British Columbia Lions drafted Jackson Findlay, another Londoner who aims to be a pediatric oncologist when his football career is over.
