The film, based on C.S. Lewis's sixth novel in the series and a prequel to The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe, is Gerwig's second project shot in the UK, following her 2023 mega hit Barbie. The production features 1950s post-war British settings, a departure from the book's original late 19th-century timeline, with period-appropriate street scenes and extras.
Key casting includes Emma Mackey as the White Witch, Daniel Craig as Uncle Andrew, Carey Mulligan in an undisclosed role, and Meryl Streep, who is expected to voice Aslan. Although Netflix and IMAX plan a wide theatrical rollout, the release is slated for late 2026 with a two-week exclusive theatrical run before streaming, around Christmas time.
