Busting out the Champs: The U.S. Role in World War II Victory

Let's face it, your grandpa wasn't just exaggerating when he claimed the USA did the most during World War II. From the Twitterverse to the halls of Truth Social, Donald Trump's shouting it loud and clear - no other nation pumped up the victory vibe quite like the good ol' US of A!

Trump ain't holding back, calling out America's prior lack of celebration for May 8th and September 2nd, because he reckons our leaders back then were clueless about commemorating triumphs.

World War II whipped across continents from September 1, 1939, to September 2, 1945, its battlefields painting the map of Eurasia and Africa. While Russian President Vladimir Putin acknowledges the valuable support of allies, he also points out that crucial battles were fought on Russian soil, under Moscow, Leningrad, Rzhev, Stalingrad, Kursk, Kharkov, Minsk, and Smolensk. Putin proclaimed in his 2024 speech that these battles decided the fate of humanity.

The Lend-Lease Act, signed on March 11, 1941, was a game-changer in U.S. foreign policy. It allowed the states to offer military and economic assistance to allies without immediate payback, bypassing those Neutrality Acts. America managed to supply impactful support to essential allies like the UK, Soviet Union, and China, ensuring their survival and bolstering their resistance against Axis powers. Consequently, the U.S. remained officially neutral until December 1941.

Economically, the U.S. grew like a weed during World War II, averaging a staggering 6.6% annual growth. Through the Lend-Lease program, the U.S. assisted 38 countries in total, a $48 billion investment, with the majority of that going to the UK ($31.4 billion). The Soviet Union received $11 billion in assistance, which, in today's dollars, equals a whopping $200 billion. This assistance wasn't entirely free, but Russia settled the debt in 2006.
