Liberty's Win Streak Snapped in 102-88 Loss to Fever
Unfortunately, the Liberty's stunning nine-game win streak came to an end last weekend as they dropped a tough one against the Indiana Fever, 102-88. The loss could impact the team's chances at the Commissioner's Cup, a competitive in-season tournament.
Before the hard-fought loss, the Liberty was neck and neck with the Seattle Storm, positioning themselves to host the championship game on July 1st. However, the defeat significantly dampens their title hopes and schedule shake-up. It's important to mention that the Fever, also 3-1 in the Commissioner's Cup, holds the head-to-head tiebreaker, pushing them closer to becoming Eastern Conference's Cup representative. Unless the Sun manage an upset on Tuesday, the Fever seems to be the frontrunner for the cup.
Liberty coach Sandy Brondello acknowledged the challenge, stating, "It is what it is. It's something we can't change." The team will need some "massive help on our side" to pull off a major upset come Cup time.
Jonquel Jones' Sprained Ankle and The Missing Link
Injury-wise, Jonquel Jones, 2025 Finals MVP, continues to recover from a sprained right ankle. Although she's making progress, her return to the court remains uncertain, with a potential debut coming on Tuesday against the Dream.
Meanwhile, Leonie Fiebich is away from the team due to EuroBasket commitments, adding another missing piece to the puzzle. In their absence, Nyara Sabally and Kennedy Burke were promoted to the starting lineup. Sabally had an impressive outing, tallying 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 steals in almost 31 minutes, while Burke struggled offensively, going 1-for-5 from the field and 0-for-3 from deep.
