Proactive strategies: Teams anticipate significant gains with their summer signings
In the ongoing summer transfer window, several Premier League clubs have been making significant moves to bolster their attacking lines. Let's take a closer look at some of the notable signings and how they might shape up for the upcoming 2022-23 season.
Liverpool has made strategic investments in Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, with Wirtz showcasing impressive creative prowess and Ekitike offering the potential for goals. A combined £300 million of Liverpool's £380m outlay went on forwards, indicating their focus on bolstering their attack.
Arsenal, on the other hand, has restructured their front line, with Ruben Amorim bringing in Cunha as the most exciting addition. Noni Madueke, who offers cover for Bukayo Saka and can operate off the left, has also joined the Gunners. Madueke performed well in shots, shots on target, and penalty area touches last season, making him a valuable asset for Arsenal.
Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke were signed to address Arsenal's lack of a number nine, with Gyokeres making an immediate impact in the 2022-23 season, scoring two goals in two appearances. However, Gyokeres is regarded as being at his peak at age 27, while Benjamin Šeško, who joined Manchester United, is seen as having higher potential for long-term development.
Manchester United has also strengthened their attack with the signings of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko. These three players combined to score 44 league goals last season, one fewer than Manchester United's total. Sesko, the top under-23 goalscorer in Europe, offers a mix of blistering pace, decent carrying ability, and a 6ft 5in frame.
Chelsea spent £55m on Joao Pedro, who struggled to secure a starting position at Brighton at times last season and ranked in the bottom 20 percent for non-penalty goals. Manchester City has added Omar Marmoush and Rayan Cherki, both of whom ranked highly in per 90 assists, shot-creating actions, and progressive passes last season.
Tottenham spent more than £50m on Mohammed Kudus, who didn't excel in any particular area, admittedly for a poor West Ham side. Liverpool is also pursuing Alexander Isak, who would bring proven Premier League quality to their squad.
Interestingly, 11 out of the top 12 transfer fees this summer have gone to attackers, with the five highest transfer fees in football history being for forwards.
As for the betting odds for the upcoming season, Gyokeres is priced at 4-5 to score 20 or more league goals, while Sesko is optimistically priced at 2-5 for a 15-plus goal haul.
In conclusion, the 2022-23 Premier League season promises to be an exciting one, with several new signings set to make their mark on the league. Keep an eye out for these new additions and how they will impact their respective teams' performances.
