Step aside, golf world, Phil Mickelson is still the man. At the recent LIV Golf Virginia tournament, the veteran pro demonstrated his skills are far from faded.
On the 17th hole at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia, Mickelson found himself in rough territory. However, he managed to pull off a shot worthy of the highlight reels. Trying to clear the green, Mickelson hit the ball from a bunker over himself, sending it spiraling onto the green, and eventually, straight into the hole.
The broadcasters erupted in awe, with one exclaiming, "That is unbelievable!" as Mickelson raised his arms in triumph.
With an impressive 13-under par score, Mickelson tied for fourth place for the tournament, sharing the podium with Thomas Pieters, Bryson DeChambeau, and Bubba Watson. His miraculous chip-in on the 17th hole certainly cemented his place amongst the top performers.
Joining the LIV Golf Frenzy
The tournament was dominated by Joaquin Niemann, who finished an impressive 15-under par, securing his fourth win of the season. Meanwhile, Graeme McDowell and Anirban Lahiri finished just behind him, tied for second at 14-under.
As for Mickelson's team, HyFlyers GC, they finished in eighth place with a score of 1-under par. Andy Ogletree, Brendan Steele, and Cameron Tringale failed to match Mickelson's fiery play.
Despite the team's less-than-stellar performance, Mickelson managed to secure 11th place in the standings, missing the first tournament of the season but recovering with impressive finishes in Hong Kong (3rd place) and Miami (6th place) alongside his performance in Virginia.
