Pro-Eric Adams Political Action Committee receives a $750,000 increase in funds
In the heated race for New York City's mayoral general election in November, the independent expenditure committee Empower NYC has emerged as a significant player. The PAC, founded by Abe George, a former candidate for Brooklyn district attorney, has raised over $1 million, with major donations from Scott Lynn and Jean Marc-Chapus.
Scott Lynn, the founder and CEO of Masterworks.io, donated a substantial $500,000 to Empower NYC, while Jean Marc-Chapus, co-founder of Crescent Capital, donated $250,000 through a trust called Etoiles Trust. These contributions have significantly boosted Empower NYC’s fundraising efforts.
The PAC's success can be seen as a reflection of its approach. George stated that Empower NYC is attracting support because it plans to operate like a full campaign, identifying Adams' voters and using a comprehensive field strategy to get those voters to the polls. The PAC's efforts seem to be resonating, as it aims to raise a total of $15 million.
However, the race for the mayoral seat is far from clear-cut. The throng of PACs spending in the race could be read as a sign of the lack of agreement among anti-Mamdani forces on the best way to defeat Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani. Even Adams and Cuomo themselves can't seem to agree, with some committees registering to spend against Mamdani while others have formed to spend in support of candidates running against him, including Adams and ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
The mayoral general election in November is a more active race than New York City typically has in the fall, with more than half a dozen independent expenditure committees forming. A real estate agent and reality TV personality named Eleonora Srugo recently formed a pro-Adams PAC, adding to the mix.
As the race heats up, it remains to be seen who will emerge victorious. However, with the support of major donors like Scott Lynn and Jean Marc-Chapus, Eric Adams' reelection campaign appears to have a strong ally in Empower NYC.

- The policy-and-legislation aspect of the New York City mayoral election has seen significant involvement from the cryptocurrency industry, with Eric Lerner working to attract donors from this sector for Empower NYC's pro-Eric Adams campaign.
- Amidst the political struggling, the labor support for Adams seems to be gaining momentum, as evidenced by the substantial fundraising boost from major donors in the policy-and-legislation landscape, including Scott Lynn, Jean Marc-Chapus, and potentially those from the cryptocurrency sector.
