In the race for New York City's mayoral reelection, Empower NYC, an independent expenditure committee supporting Mayor Eric Adams, has seen significant financial backing from prominent donors.

The committee, which aims to raise a total of $15 million for Adams' campaign, has already amassed over $1 million in donations. This includes a recent $750,000 boost, primarily from two major donors.

Scott Lynn, the founder and CEO of Masterworks.io, and Jean Marc-Chapus, co-founder of Crescent Capital, have been key contributors. Lynn donated $500,000, while Chapus donated $250,000 via the Etoiles Trust, which had previously donated $50,000 to Empower NYC in May.

Another billionaire donor to Empower NYC is Len Blavatnik. The committee's efforts to attract donors, particularly from the cryptocurrency industry, are being spearheaded by lawyer Eric Lerner.

Eleonora Srugo, a recent addition, has also formed a pro-Adams PAC. Abe George, the founder and CEO of Empower NYC and a previous candidate for Brooklyn district attorney, is leading the fundraising efforts.

Empower NYC plans to operate like a full campaign, identifying Adams' voters and using a comprehensive field strategy to get those voters to the polls. The committee's activities are part of a broader landscape of independent expenditure committees that have formed for the mayoral general election in November.

However, the throng of PACs spending in the race could be a sign of the lack of agreement among anti-Mamdani forces on the best way to defeat Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani. Adams and his opponents, including ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo, have yet to find common ground in their strategies.

As the race heats up, Empower NYC continues its push to secure the necessary funds for Adams' reelection effort. The committee's success will undoubtedly play a crucial role in shaping the outcome of the election.
