In a surprising turn of events, Illinois Republican state Rep. Adam Niemerg has filed an impeachment resolution against Governor JB Pritzker, following the assassination of conservative movement powerhouse, Charlie Kirk.

The renewed impeachment efforts against Pritzker, a Democrat, are unlikely to move forward as both chambers of the General Assembly and the state Senate are controlled by Democrats in the deep blue state.

The controversy stems from Pritzker's remarks comparing the Trump administration to the rise of Nazi Germany in his February State of the State address. Critics have been quick to label Pritzker as 'pathological' and a 'liar,' while Pritzker has vehemently denied ever calling Republicans 'Nazis.'

Following Charlie Kirk's assassination while attending an event at Utah Valley University, Pritzker has condemned the act as 'horrifying.' He has also accused President Donald Trump of 'actively fanning the flames of division.'

Pritzker's office has asked Illinois House Republicans to denounce all forms of political violence, and has stated that such acts have no place in the country and should never become the norm.

Meanwhile, Republicans and conservatives in Illinois are comparing Pritzker's previous comments on Republicans and Nazi Germany to his press conference remarks. Pritzker has continued to call for toning down political rhetoric and has criticized Trump for encouraging division.

Charlie Kirk leaves behind his wife, Erika, and their two children, ages one and three. Kirk's funeral is planned for Sunday in Arizona, with Trump and other administration leaders expected to attend.

As the nation grapples with the aftermath of Charlie Kirk's assassination, the impeachment efforts against Pritzker continue to garner attention, adding another layer of complexity to the already heated political climate.
