Prisoner Accused of Murdering Denisa Adas and Ana Andrei Assaulted Within Cell Walls

A lowdown on Vasile Frumuzache, the alleged serial killer in Tuscany

In the repressive confines of a prison, a confessed murderer named Vasile Frumuzache, a 32-year-old Romanian-born security guard, became a victim himself. He was attacked with boiling oil in Prato prison, suffering burns on his face. The attacker was a kinsman of Ana Maria Andrei, a woman who vanished and was later confirmed dead in 2024, a crime Frumuzache admitted to committing yesterday.

Residing in Monsummano Terme, Frumuzache is currently in the emergency room in Prato, his treatment ongoing. The assault occurred unchecked in Via La Montagnola, Prato prison of Dogaia. The authorities intervened at 10:40.

In a stark statement, Prosecutor Luca Tescaroli said, "The perpetrator carried out the attack undisturbed, without any supervision." He added, "Everyone, guilty of severe crimes, has the right to protection, humane treatment, and respect as a human being."

Frumuzache's crimes date back to 2024. He confessed to extinguishing the life of Denisa Maria Adas, a prostitute he met through a dating app. He alleged she was blackmailing him, summoning the carabinieri. Confessing to the heinous act, he noted, "I strangled her, severed her head, and transported her body away in a suitcase. I did it all on my own." He indicated an abandoned farmhouse in the Le Panieraie area, between Montecatini Terme and Monsummano, where Adas' remains were found.

Frumuzache later admitted to killing Ana Maria Andrei, another escort who disappeared on August 1, 2024, in Montecatini Terme, in the province of Pistoia. "She tried to flee, and I stabbed her," he admitted.

Frumuzache's injuries are predominantly confined to his face, with burns on one cheek and temple. His airways, however, have reportedly remained unaffected. Medical professionals anticipate discharging him soon, following which he will be returned to custody.

The investigators have not ruled out the likelihood of additional victims. They have consequently ordered reviews of missing women's lists in Tuscany, particularly prostitutes, but also in Sicily, where Frumuzache used to reside until 2022. Investigations are progressing to unearth new leads, including examining phone records. Tomorrow, Frumuzache will undergo questioning for the confirmation of his detention.

However, there hasn't been any concrete evidence linking Frumuzache to killings in Sicily as of yet. The investigation remains primarily focused on Tuscany, where the murders occurred.

Some intriguing lines from the investigative saga:- Frumuzache's household search yielded clues pointing towards potential additional victims.- Investigators are scrutinizing seven years' worth of Frumuzache's telephone records to reconstruct his connections and networks.- While Frumuzache maintains he acted solo, investigators are exploring the possibility of accomplices due to discrepancies in his narrative and absence of blood traces at the crime scene.

In light of the ongoing investigations, it appears that Frumuzache's crimes span beyond Tuscany, with investigators scrutinizing his telephone records from the past seven years to reconstruct his connections and networks. Additionally, the average number of potential victims under review includes not only missing women in Tuscany but also in Sicily, where Frumuzache previously resided.
